The Best Font Pairings for Your Brand (Free Tool Inside)

Typography is the voice of your brand. Before anyone reads a single word, your font choices are already telling them whether you're playful, premium, technical, or trustworthy. Pairing the wrong fonts — or worse, five different fonts — quietly erodes that impression.
The two rules of pairing
- Contrast wins — pair a display font for headings with a neutral, highly-readable body font. Same-same pairings look like a mistake.
- Limit to two, maybe three — one display, one body, and optionally a mono or accent font for labels and numbers.
When the pair works, it's because the fonts share a similar mood but different roles — like a bold speaker and a calm translator.
Five pairings that always work
- Space Grotesk + Inter — modern, technical, creative. Great for agencies and startups (it's what this site uses).
- Montserrat + Lora — a confident geometric sans with a warm serif. Elegant but friendly.
- Playfair Display + Lato — high-contrast luxury headline with a clean body. Perfect for premium brands.
- Poppins + Open Sans — rounded and approachable. Ideal for wellness, education, and lifestyle brands.
- Merriweather + Source Sans — editorial and trustworthy. Outstanding for news, finance, and long-form reading.
Check the practical stuff first
A gorgeous pairing can still fail in practice. Make sure the body font loads fast (use system fonts or a lean Google Fonts subset), reads well at 16px, and includes the weights you need. Also check that your chosen fonts support the characters your language needs — including local names and accents.
Where each font does its job
Use the display font for headlines, hero text, and numbers that need weight. Use the body font for paragraphs, captions, forms, and anything read at small sizes. Reserve a third mono font — like Roboto Mono — for labels, code, and data dashboards where technical character is an asset.
Not sure where to start? Our free Font Pairing Suggester generates tested display + body combinations in one click, using the same logic we apply to client brands.
Consistency is the real magic
The best pairing in the world fails if you use it differently on every page. Settle on a small type system — heading sizes, body sizes, spacing — and stick to it across your website, social graphics, and printed materials. That consistency is what makes a brand feel professional and recognisable.
